Welcome to the ‘8 Mile Creek’ section of the Hume & Hovell walking track located near the community of Thurgoona.
This runs along Tabletop/Bowna Rd between Thurgoona & Ettamogah and is a lovely walk with lot’s of wildlife to be seen & heard along the way.
The Hume & Hovell walking track is over 440km’s long and runs between Yass and Albury, NSW.
This walk let’s people re-discover the journey in which Hamilton Hume & William Hovell took on their expedition to Port Phillip in 1824.
The track starts at ‘Cooma Cottage’ located just out of Yass and finishes at the Hovell Tree, just near Norieul Park, on the banks of the Murray River, Albury.
To access the cache you will need to turn into Kywanna Rd to park safely. We do not recommend parking on Tabletop or Bowna Rd, as the road is far too narrow and unsafe for yourself and other road users.
As soon as you turn into Kywanna Road you will see the ‘Hume & Hovell Walking Track’ sign. The cache is roughly an easy 250metres from the parking area.
The walk to the cache is flat; however you do need to climb over the fence using the steps & rails provided at the start.
You will be looking for a 1.2Litre Camouflaged sistema container filled with lot’s of goodies.
If you wish to walk a little bit further, you will come to another gate, and another fence climb, if you take the track up to the left immediately before the fence and walk up a bit you will see some remains of some really old cars which are quite interesting, and would be great if your interested in photography.
Also, if you would like to walk 4.2kms, you can get a good meal & drinks at the Kinross Woolshed Hotel!
We hope you enjoy the area & the cache.
