The Bigfoot Memorial Lending Library Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mizdeeds: I'm sorry to say this cache has to be archived. Stan's brother has sold the blueberry farm and will be moving out of the area. The family will be taking his ashes with them, maybe to be scattered to the 4 winds in some other place that he enjoyed. We'd like to thank all who visited; we enjoyed reading all the logs and comments, and we're sure Bigfoot also enjoyed your visits. We will be picking up the cache in the next few days and will distribute any swag that is in it to different caches we visit. The books and other media in the cache that is in good condition will be donated to a local library or school. If the travel bug is still in it, we will of course move it along to another cache. Again, thanks to all who visited .... Mizdeeds

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden on private property with express permission from the owner. As a matter of fact, the owner specifically asked us to create this cache. Read on to see why. Please limit your search to DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY. NO NIGHT CACHING.

This cache was placed in memory of Bigfoot15, our geocaching buddy and local legend. Any cache you visit in this area, and for that matter the entire state of Michigan, that was hidden before March of 2009, will likely have a big red foot stamped in the logbook. Stan (Bigfoot15) truly enjoyed geocaching, and being first to find made the find even sweeter.

Stan passed away March 8, 2009 and left a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. He was an ambassador for geocaching; there were no strangers to Bigfoot. When he met a muggle near a cache site, he'd stop and explain geocaching to them, sometimes enlisting their help in finding the cache. We know of at least one instance when it was a police officer who stopped to see what he was doing, and ended up helping him look! Who knows how many new cachers got their start after being introduced to geocaching by Stan? His legend will live on.

Even though he had more than 1,200 finds, he'd never hidden a cache. We always wondered why, and he told us he just didn't want to--he liked finding them. BUT, he did say that if he ever did hide one, it would be a "media exchange" cache; a place to exchange books, movies and CD's/DVD's. He thought that was a great idea for a cache and said that's what he would do if he hid one.

And so the "Bigfoot Memorial Lending Library" has been established. We've started it with some books, CD's and DVD's in it, along with some other swag. Please try to help us keep the theme of the cache going when exchanging items. This cache is a very large ammo can placed near where Bigfoot's ashes have been laid to rest at his brother's blueberry farm. Stan loved spending time at the farm, and when you couldn't find him, that was the place to look. They thought it was appropriate that his final resting place be there, and wanted us to put a geocache there for him to watch over.

There are no hints. This hide is Stan's favorite type. A large container that you get to by walking just a short distance over level ground. Don't take too long to find it, or we're sure you'll hear Stan laughing at you!!
