선비샘은 벽소령과 세석사이에 있는 샘터로 종주 산행하는 사람에게 없어서는 안될 귀중한 물이 나오는 곳입니다.
예전에는 캠핑으로 지저분했었는데 요즈음에는 캠핑과 취사가 금지되어 깨끗하게 관리되어 있습니다.
선비샘의 유래
?x날 덕평골에 화전민 이씨라는 노인이 살았다. 노인은 천대와 멸시를 받으며 살아서, 죽어서라도 남에게 존경을 받고 싶어 자식들에게 자신의 묘를 상덕평의 샘터 위에 묻어 달라고 유언을 하였다. 효성스러운 자식들은 그의 주검을 샘터위에 묻었고, 그로부터 지리산을 찾는 사람들이 샘터의 물을 마시고자 하면 자연스럽게 허리를 구부려서 무덤으로 절을 하는 형상이 되어 죽어서도 남들로부터 존경아닌 존경을 받게 된것이다.
Origin of SeonBiSaem(Spring)
Once upon a time, there was Mr Lee, an old farmer in the Deokpyeong village. Lee was scorned and treated badly by villagers so he wished to earn some respect from people at least after he died. He asked his family to bury his body right behind the SeonBiSaem(Spring) when he died. His thoughtful sons and daughters followed his father's will and buried him behind the spring. people visiting the SeonBiSaem(Spring) in Jirisan(Mt.), they stooped in front of the spring to drink water and it looks like people were bowing to Lee's grave. The bowing turned out to be showing such 'respect' for Lee.
