Haynesville was settled in 1818. The community took the name "Haynesville" in 1843 from farmer Samuel Haynes of Georgia, who established Old Haynesville some two miles south of the present site of the town. In 1898, the whole town moved north to meet the railroad, now the Louisiana and Northwest Railroad. My great grandfather was the brother of Samuel Haynes. The family story goes that they both brought their families across on a wagon train from Georgia to settle in the Louisiana Purchase. Samuel stopped here and his brother continued on to a place near what is Hope, Arkansas now.
Permission was obtained from the business owner (Mr. Killgore on the corner) to place this cache. While in Haynesville take some time to look at the great wall murals that he painted.
