"Got a light, comrade?" is the first Russian Pass that
came to mind. I'm also partial to, "If I said you have a hot
Russian body, would you hold it against me, comrade?"
This particular Russian Pass was blasted in the early 1900's.
When the area was being logged, maybe having an eastern connection
around McGregor Island was useful. In fact, if it weren't for the
blasting, McGregor Island probably wouldn't be an island at all, in
which case it would be part of the mainland and part of Killarney
Provincial Park. Fortunately, it's not and we can enjoy the freedom
to geocache.
According to Lou Nees's book on McGregor bay, McGregor Island
burned in 1915 and its south shore burned again in 1937. Based on
1950's aerial photos of the Bay, Russian Pass is where utility
lines and a road passed through from Killarney on the way to
Iroquois Island. If you hike the island today, you'll find several
very large swamps and probably a bear or three.
