Another in a my series of wild oasis caches. These woods are a
wonderful example of how small islands of wilderness are trapped by
human development. This is an interesting area consisting of woods,
streams, ponds and meadows all encircled by highways and commercial
buildings.
Take a walk in the woods. If you start from WO-9.1 it's just a
leisurely stroll down the game path. When I arrived here I found
the remains of a robin's egg on the ground right near where I hid
the cache. Some scientists say that the blue color is an adaptation
that helps robin parents distinguish the eggs of parasitic species
from their own. Robins have a low rate of parasitism by species
such as cowbirds.
The cache is located at: N40 03.AAB W075 40.CDA
The missing coordinates to the cache can be found by solving
this simple puzzle:
- A = How many letters are in the last name of the composer of
the song "When the Red, Red Robin (Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin'
Along)"?
- B = In how many states is the American Robin the state
bird?
- C = The number of sub-species of American Robin which commonly
migrate to Scotland in the summer?
- D = How many of the members of a robin pair brood their
eggs?
