Geocache Description:

Cache located of the osprey trail next to Pactola Reservoir, excellent short loop hike (approx half mile), get a great view of the lake and the damn. Plenty of great plant life along the trail. Most of which are also known medicines to the Lakota.

Osprey trail A is a short .42 mile hike along one of the points on the Pactola Reservoir. I like coming up here hiking quite a bit. this spot typically has less people visiting due to the fact it is a fee area. However it is well worth the fee. The parking is near Osprey Cove, its a no wake zone for boats so plenty of areas to swim. You will typically find some boats anchored here fishing or swimming.

Trail is an easy hike it is more of a mountain style hike meaning it feels like a game trail, a one person packed trail. Long the trail you will see many different plants, including Wild Bergamot, Purple Coneflower, White Sage, Yellow Coneflower, and Wild Raspberries to name a few. All of these are known medicines to the Lakota Indians. I wouldn't suggest picking or digging the forest service has strict policies on this.

The cache is located off the trail a little ways. It should be an easy find to a seasoned cacher. You are looking for a orange match container. There is only a log in the cache so bring a pencil.

This trail is closed winter months and it is an there is a day fee for use of the trail.
