Geocache Description:

A travel bug trading post just north of Fergus along Highway 6 - a popular north/south travel route. The location is at a ghost town named Cumnock. You'll still find the town name on Google Maps and associated with the 2 forests on either side of Hwy 6.

The cache can easily accommodate a number of trackables so feel free to drop any you picked up while traveling along the highway.

"Like Ponsonby, Cumnock began as a stopping place on one of the early pioneer trails. It was founded in 1852 by a James Samson who emigrated from Scotland. With a partner, John Muir, they built a hotel and named it the Red Lion Hotel. Later, Muir opened his own hotel and named it the British Hotel in competition with his former partner. Samson then added a store to his growing list of business and opened the town’s first post office naming it after Cumnock in Scotland. The village grew to include a blacksmith, a cheese factory, a shoemaker, a flax mill, a sawmill, and a small number of houses.
As the railroads came through the area, traffic along the roads dwindled and the town began to decline."
