Geocache Description:

This is a pill bottle container located along King Edward Ave. Just room for a TB and very small items. BYOP and please watch out for muggles.

As you are traveling along a road whether walking, biking or driving, have you ever wondered how the road got its name? And what is the history behind the name?

One road that interests me is King Edward Avenue, a major thoroughfare in the city of Vancouver running from the east in the Kensington-Cedar cottage to Crown St. in the west. Ontario Street divides West King Edward from East King Edward Avenue. East-west streets are normally numbered making King Edward Avenue as 25th Avenue.

Named in honour of King Edward (Albert Edward) VII , King of Canada from 1901 to 1910. He was the eldest son and heir apparent of QueenVictoria and his father was Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was the first monarch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was popularly known as the “Peacemaker” because of his effort to strengthen relations between Great Britain and other European countries.

The Edwardian period was named after him which also coincided with the start of the century and the advancement of technology.
