A 3-step cache in a neighborhood park celebrating the work of some fine folks!
This cache is a revival of Hoo T. Owl's "The Arnold Family" cache (GCWNXX). Some elements are the same, but the final location is different.
The cache is also a three-way tribute. First shout out goes to Hoo T. Owl and all cachers who take the time to create (and maintain!) multicaches. I'm especially fond of Hoo T.'s "A Bit of a Disappointment" (GC10QWQ) which clearly is much more fun than its self-depracating name would imply.
Second, the cache is, as the original was, a tribute to the Arnold family. This is how the tribute read in the GCWNXX description:
This multi-cache is a tribute to the Arnold family, a truly fine group of folks. Fred Arnold, for whom the park is named, moved his family to Oregon about 70-some years ago. He and his wife had 4 children of their own, and were foster parents besides. He worked for the Hershey Chocolate Co. and (according to his granddaughter) grew the best corn this side of the Rockies. He never lived in this spot himself, but a son did, and he is the one who caused this land to be set aside for our enjoyment in honor of his father. Myself, I have known 2 of Fred Arnold’s children, 4 of his grandchildren, 8 of his great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild (not to mention all the spouses and in-laws!); and I have to say, “It would be hard to find a more wonderful family.”
Thirdly, this cache is a tribute to four grand cachers who reached the four grand mark this year: the PeterAndTrisha clan. In addition to prolific finding of all varieties of caches, P&T have given back plenty to the hobby. Of course they have created great hides - they've also rescued several classic caches that otherwise might have been archived. I've had the pleasure of accompanying them on several cache hunts (and rescue operations) and it is always a great time. Congratulations to P&T on reaching 4K - woo and hoo!
So, here's how to find this Multicache. If you found GCWNXX, some of this will be quite familiar:
At the posted coordinates, stand on the sidewalk and set your compass bearing to 228° north (true). Follow the line of sight indicated, through the trees and across the lawn; you should see a waist-high square post made of brick. There you will find the information you need to get the cache co-ordinates.
When you get to the post, locate a plaque with a phrase that takes the form “A, B, and the C.” Let A, B, and C equal the number of letters in their respective words. Then let w=A, x=B+2, y=C-2, z=x-w.
Cache is at N45° 29.wxw W122° 51.yzx
Please use your best stealth techniques while searching for the final. And please please keep the cache well covered, double-covered if possible. Thanks, and good luck!
