This is one in a series of caches that will take you to Greers Ferry Lake, thus the name. Along your tour you will see many highlights and/or businesses that are available in the Heber Springs area. You may even learn a little history or find out about a business located in this small rural town. These caches are micros and hidden in traditional ways. They only contain a log. Please bring a writing instrument with you. As of 9/26/17 there isn't a series of caches to obtain a final location. Some of this series are remaining as stand alone caches. If you have comments or suggestions as to how this cache can be improved, please let me know in your online log. Above all, be safe, have fun, happy caching, and enjoy each day to its fullest. Rainbow Trout (Onchorychus mykiss) - Likes cold water streams with plenty of cover. They generally do not survive temperatures above 70 degrees. They are grown commercially in some areas of the South with many federal and state hatcheries growing trout and then releasing them into streams for sport fishing. Spawning occurs in the spring or fall over a gravel bed in shallow running 50 - 60 degree water. Bait fishing for trout is popular and many fish are taken on canned corn, night crawlers, salmon eggs, crayfish, and cheese balls. Artificial baits include spinners, jigs, small spoons, crawfish, and minnow imitation crank baits. It has a colorful pink or red stripe extending down its sides. There are numerous black spots present on the back, dorsal, and tail fins. The tail is slightly forked. Its food habits are insects, crustaceans, and fish. It can weigh up to 32 pounds, but rarely over 5 pounds. It can be found in AL, AR, GA, KY, NC, SC, TN, and TX.
