verklemmte Rohrpostbuechse


Ein Verein von Straßenbaufirmen projektierte 1926 eine Straße für den Kraftwagen-Schnellverkehr von Hamburg über Hannover und Frankfurt am Main nach Basel und damit das erste große Autobahn-Projekt in Deutschland.

Die damals geplante Trasse entspricht in etwa dem Verlauf der heutigen Autobahn im nördlichen Teil der A 7.
Zeitgleich mit dem Bau der Trasse wurde mit der Verlegung der Rohre für eine Fernrohrpost zwischen Hamburg und Hannover begonnen.
Noch vor Fertigstellung der Fahrspuren wurde die Anlage zur Probe in Betrieb genommen. Sie endete im Fiasko, keine der Rohrbüchsen erreichte ihren Bestimmungsort.



Weitere Versuche fanden nicht statt, die Anlage stillgelegt und teilweise demontiert. Hierbei wurde nur ein Teil dieser Rohrpostbüchsen gefunden und gerieten in Vergessenheit.


Bei Gesprächen mit älteren Bewohnern von Harber wurden wir auf die Überreste einer dieser Anlagen aufmerksam gemacht.
Die anschließende Suchaktion nahe der Autobahn ergab,
Fundamente der -- Druckerhöhungsstation Harber – ein Teilstück der alten Rohrleitung.
Darin eine Rohrpostbüchse, aber verklemmt, konnten diese Büchse noch nicht bergen.
Somit wissen wir auch Nichts über deren Inhalt zu berichten.

PS. Nicht alles an dieser Geschichte entspricht der Wahrheit, es ist nur eine Geschichte

The uptight letter shoot box


In 1926, there was a society of road construction firms planning a road for rapid car traffic from Hamburg via Hannover and Frankfurt (am Main) to Basel. This was the first bigger project for motorway construction in Germany.

The primary planned trail corresponds approximately to the northern part of the present motorway A7. The construction of the motorway and the installation of the letter shoot systems’ pipeline Hamburg – Hannover started at the same time. Just before finishing the motorway a first running of the letter shoot system took place. But those tests had totally flopped: any of the letter shoot boxes reached their destination. So further tests were cancelled, the letter shoot system was shut down and partly dismounted. During the removal only few of the letter shoot boxes were retrieved, and the remaining ones fell into oblivion. Conversations amongst elder inhabitants of Harber guided us to the ruins near the motorway; we found the basement of the Pressure Increasing Station Harber, a part of the letter shoot pipeline…and inside the pipeline we have spotted an uptight letter shoot box! Unfortunately we haven’t managed to retrieve it so far…so we aren’t able to give an account of the content.

Postscript: Parts of this story don’t tell the truth, it’s just a fairy tale…

You can go for this cache by feet or bike… or if you come by car it’s best to park at the motorway station (Autohof). Take care of the car traffic due to the motorway gateway!
Make sure that you bring a pencil with you!
