Met medewerking van de historische kring Voorhout en de gemeente Teylingen.
Voorhout heette oorspronkelijk Foranholte (dan weet u nu waar de naam van onze voetbalclub vandaan komt). Later werd het Voorhout. Zoals het hout in de naam aangeeft was het dorp zeer rijk aan bos.
Van 1339 tot 1345 is Voorhout onder Symon van Bentheim een ambachtsheerlijkheid geweest. Daarna heeft Voorhout het lange tijd zonder ambachtsheer of – vrouw moeten stellen. Het stond toen als ambacht rechtstreeks onder de graven van Holland en West-Friesland. De Staten van van Holland en West-Friesland hadden in 1722 behoefte aan geld. Om aan de nodige contanten te komen, ging men er toe over, bij openbare verkoping een aantal ambachtsheerlijkheden te verkopen. De koper van Voorhout was de predikant Abraham Bereveld die het voor 6400 gulden kocht. Hiermee had Voorhout dus weer een eigen ambachtsheer.
De ambachtsheer was meestal elders woonachtig. Zo nu en dan verbleef hij een kort tijd op zijn “heerlijkheid” en woonde in een voor hem bestemd huis. Dit was de buitenplaats Schoonoord. Deze buitenplaats stond in het tegenwoordige Overbosch, dicht bij de Leidsevaart en de Nagelbrug. Het was een monumentaal gebouw, dat is ontstaan nadat in 1657 de Leidsevaart of Haarlemmer Trekvaart was gegraven. In 1836 werd het eigendom van de ambachtsheer Christiaan Lodewijk Coster van Voorhout. Ook deze verbleef er weinig en regelde meestal de ambachtszaken van Leiden uit, later uit Tiel waar hij een steenoven exploiteerde. In 1845 besloot hij afstand te doen van zijn “heerlijkheid”. Pastoor P.A. Kervel te Leiden, bestuurslid van het seminarium Hageveld te Velsen zocht naar een ruimer onderkomen voor de opleiding der r.k. geestelijkheid. Hij kocht daartoe de herenbehuizing (Schoonoord) met koetshuis en stalling, bosgronden, overplaats, moesgronden, etc., benevens de heerlijkheid Voorhout, de dorpsherberg aan de overzijde van de vaart, vanouds genaamd “het Rechthuis”(De Bonte Koe), en de daaraan verbonden boerderij en weilanden.
Men toog onverwijld aan het werk. Schoonoord werd gesloopt en aan de overzijde van de weg naar Rijnsburg die het landgoed doorsneed (Rijnsburgerweg) verrees het nieuwe “Hageveld”. De geschiedenis van het nieuwe seminarie tot de thans als KTS bekend staande school is goed te volgen.
Nog niet gevonden is hoe de zijde van het landgoed aan de Leidsevaart zich ontwikkeld heeft, na de koop door het seminarium Hageveld, tot het openbare wandelgebied ’Het Overbosch’ en wanneer de huidige villa er gebouwd is. Ergens moet het eigendom overgegaan zijn naar de gemeente Voorhout.

Our village was originally named Foranholte (now you know where the name of our footballclub comes from). Later was it was named Voorhout. As the name indicates the timber in the village was very rich in forest.
From 1339-1345 Symon of Bentheim was a manor. After that Voorhout was a long period without a Manor or - woman. It was then directly under the counts of Holland and West Friesland. The States of Holland and West Friesland in 1722 had need for money. Fulfilling the necessary cash to come, they organised a public auction to sell several manors. The buyer of Voorhout was the preacher Abraham Bereveld who bought it for 6400 guilders. And so again Voorhout had his own manor.
The manor was usually reside elsewhere. Now and then he spent a short time at his "glory" and lived in a house for him. This was the courtyard Schoonoord. This mansion stood in the present Overbosch near the Leidsevaart and Nagelbrug. It was a monumental building that was created short after1657 when the Leidsevaart of Haarlemmer Trekvaart was dug. In 1836 the ownership went to the manor Christiaan Louis Coster van Voorhout. He stayed low and settled mostly in the craft business of Leiden, later Tiel where he operated a brick kiln. In 1845 he decided to renounce his "glory". Pastor P.A. Kervel from Leiden, director of the seminary Hageveld in Velsen was looking for a larger venue for the training of Roman Catholic clergy. He bought so Schoonoord with coach house and stables, woodland, purée land, etc., and the glory Voorhout, the townhouse on the other side of the canal, traditionally called "the Right House" (De bonte Koe), and related farm and pasture land.
They went immediately to work. Schoonoord was demolished and on the other side of the road to Rijnsburg that cut through the estate (Rijnsburgerweg) rose the new Hageveld. The history of the new seminary to the current preparatory secundary education school (KTS) is easy to follow.
We have still not found how the other side of the estate to the Leidsevaart has developed, after the purchase by the seminary Hageveld, to the public hiking place "Het Overbosch" and when the villa is built. Somewhere on the property has to be gone to the municipality Voorhout.
