Along the coast and around the area are a number of disused quarry's long since abandoned. Now a home for a multitude of sea birds and wildlife, a walk along the coast can be a rewarding adventure.
Please be aware that because the cliffs around the coast have been mined for sandstone there are some very steep drops.
Further along the path and down at the beach can be found a Site of special sciantific interest. A Pictish sea cave at the foot of steep cliffs, access is very difficult and should be with extreme caution and regard for the tides should be taken into account.
Sculptors cave grid O/S NJ 1750 7072
A dwelling from the Bronze Age until the 19th Century. Bones and Bronze Age metalwork found in the 1920s, apparently ritual deposits and sacrifices. The significance of the site lasted long into the Pictish period.
The Sculptor's Cave is of particular interest as the cave still has clear-cut excavation trenches, and a number of sculptures that could have given the cave its name, were noticed. The cave has two entrances, side by side and partly boarded up. The east entrance is 3.0m wide and 2.5m high; and that on the west is 2.0m wide and 4.5m high (where excavated). From the entrances, two passages, 11.0m long, run into a cavern 20.0 x 13.5m and 4.0m high.
