The Letter
As I put together the “Communi-K8” cache (GC2B3Z2) I had a couple of old communications songs rattling about in the vast caverns of my mind. So I thought why not continue the communications theme and do a little series to share some of those old songs with my fellow cachers.
Hanging up the telephone, this next earworm takes us to the postal service, or as it is cruelly termed these days, the “Snail Mail”
"The Letter" is a song written by Wayne Carson Thompson and a hit record for The Box Tops in 1967.
The Letter has been covered by The Mindbenders, Al Green, Trini Lopez, David Coverdale,The Beach Boys, Brenda Lee, Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Arbors, Blonde on Blonde, Bobby Darin, Kimberly Briggs, Dionne Warwick, Amii Stewart, Del Shannon, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Shadows, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, Declan Galbraith, Seasick Steve, Matt Schofield, Don Fardon, Ellie Greenwich, Dynamo 5, and Manolo Tena to name a few. But probably the most recognised is the 1970 version by Joe Cocker.

Now on to the cache! Not surprisingly the first waypoint for this cache is located near a post box at the above location. As with the Telstra telephone box, Aussie Post also has a “use it or lose it” policy and with utilities now adding charges for hard copy bills, this icon may also disappear from our streetscape.
