Cwms Road Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerly Salopian: After four years and over 70 finds, this cache has sadly reached the end of its useful life. Certainly one of the more adventurous caches in the Strettons, catching geocachers out who are more used to, well, less muddy (and more scenic) locations! Thanks to all those who have ventured forth and found it.

Geocache Description:

Cwms Road, or Cwms Lane, leads up from Church Stretton to the Cwms valley on the other side of Caer Caradoc and onwards to Willstone. Although a "public road" most of it is unsuitable for most vehicles. The cache is in a section that is effectively a gully and although still the public road, there is now a separate public footpath that runs alongside it, higher up in a field. The "road" is muddy at the best of times and can get quite deep in water during winter.

The cache is a small tupperware container and is hidden in one of the slopes of the gully, underneath some roots, and obscured by pieces of wood. (See my photo as a hint.) The cache can be reached from the bottom of the gully (ie from standing on the "road") and you do not need to venture up the steep gully side. The location is about 25m up the gully from the bend/where a stream from Helmeth Hill enters the gully. The gully can be accessed from either end, but generally not from either side as the slope is steep and fenced off at the top (to stop the sheep falling down!). Good footwear/Wellingtons are recommended, even in drier spells.
