Geocache Description:

The mine site of Mary Kathleen is well worth a vist to see why the township of Mary Kathleen existed. It is also well worth a vist to see the deep blue colour of the water from the minerals that exist in the pit.

Following on from the cache 'Mary Kathleen' and since you are in the area you might as well go to the pit, have a look and grab another cache. From the cattle grid on the hwy follow the road 1.4km in to a junction where you can either turn right into the old town of Mary Kathleen or left to the pit. Follow the road left for 4.9 km until you get to the end of the bitumen. S 20.44.139 E140.00.339 Here you need to follow the track leading off to the right. This will take you through the old processing plant area. Follow this around for .9km until you get to a junction where you need to turn right. From here it is only .9km to the pit and cache.

Please Note: Cache is only a short walk along the same level path from where you park your car. You do not have to go around the mine site or climb up any other levels.

NOTE: All vehicles including caravans will get to the end of the bitumen. From here only 4wd's and reasonably high clearance vehicles will be able to get through to the mine. A good indication is if you think you can get past the start of the track just in front of you to the right at the end of the bitumen then you will get through to the pit. If not grab your water bottle and go for a nice easy walk in.
