Mergelgroeve Blom is een voormalige groeve waar in het verleden zand, grind en mergel zijn gewonnen door de familie Blom.
Op deze unieke locatie zie je onder meer een mergelwand waar vroeger mergel is afgegraven.
Zo'n 70 tot 65 miljoen jaar geleden lag Zuid-Limburg op de bodem van een tropische oceaan. Allerlei schelpdiertjes die hier leefden zijn in de loop van de jaren gestorven en werden in de loop van vele miljoenen jaren samengedrukt tot wat nu als mergel zichtbaar is.
In de mergelwand die je hier kunt zien zijn zodoende ook veel fossielen gevonden, onder meer van mosasauriërs, ammonieten en oesters. Er is zelfs een fossiel vernoemd naar deze groeve. Het zoeken naar fossielen is hier echter niet meer toegestaan.
Betreden van het gebied is alleen toegestaan wanneer men zich aan de regels houdt die op het toegangshek staan. Het niet toegestaan je buiten het wandelpad te begeven, en dat is voor deze cache ook totaal niet nodig.
Parkeer je eventuele voertuig nabij de ingang op N 50° 51.428 E 005° 47.416. Op het hek hangt een informatiebordje "groeve BLOM" (Hetzelfde informatiebordje vind je bij de alternatieve ingang op N50° 51.400 E005° 47.600).

Ga nu naar het coördinaat boven aan deze pagina, hier vind je de mergelwand en stond voorheen een infobordje. Maak hier een foto van jezelf (of een persoonlijk item) om toe te voegen aan je log.
Vroeger stond hier een bordje, maar nu resteert er alleen een vraag die je op eigen geologisch inzicht mag beantwoorden:

Quarry Blom is a former quarry where in the past sand, gravel and marl were collected by the family Blom.
At this unique location you'll see among others a marl limestone wall where marl has been excavated.
Approximately 70 to 65 million years ago South-Limburg was at the bottom of a tropical ocean. All kinds of shellfishes which were living here died during the years, and were compressed in the following millions of years into what's vissible as marl now.
In the limestone wall you'll see here many fossils are found, for example Mosasaurs, ammonites and oysters. There's even a fossil named to this quarry. Searching for fossils is, however, not allowed anymore.
Entering the area is only allowed when you notice the rules on the gate. It's absolutely forbidden to enter the area outside the paths, and it's totally unnecessary for this cache.
If you have a vehicle, park it near the entrance at N 50° 51.428 E 005° 47.416 and look for the information sign "groeve BLOM" attached to the fence (the same sign can be found on the alternative entrance at N50° 51.400 E005° 47.600)

Continue to the to the coordinates mentioned above. Here you'll find the limestone wall and there used to be a small information sign. Make a picture of yourself (or a personal item) with the limestone wall at the background to add to your log. In the past you were able to anwer the questions below using the information sign, nowadays there is only this question you can answer using your own geological insight:
