Geocache Description:

Howdy cachers! Saddle up, because the Boomtown Trail is going to have its own Cache & Release Event! All this is part of a great initiative to showcase Boomtowns’ vast scenery, captivating history, and rural culture during the harvest season. This event is being organized by BoomtownTrail, but is feeding off the enthusiasm and expertise of local cachers.

The first Boomtown Trail Cache & Release (BTTCAR1) will be held on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25, 2010. We invite cachers young and old, new or expert, to come out and enjoy the fun of the hunt! This event consists of all-night all-day beating the bushes, hitting the ditches, scouring the communities and countryside for fresh caches!

There is three stages to the BTTCAR event: 1) the Hides, 2) the Hunt, 3) the Get-togethers.

THE HIDE: Hide some caches! Caches must be submitted by Thursday, September 16th. Hiders are suggested to get out RIGHT NOW, go hide some caches, and give Cache Effect sufficient time to review and publish the new, fresh caches. Caches must be regular and/or small size, and all caches must be hidden with 2 1/2 miles of the posted above route/roads. Hide caches that are fun to find!

NOTE: Every cache listing submitted for BTTCAR1 should include the following:

1) Be sure to add BTTCAR1 to the end of the cache name. For example, your Railroad cache would be listed as ‘Railroad-BTTCAR1’. This allows for an accurate list of published caches.

2)Also begin each cache description with: this cache has been placed for the BTTCAR1:Boomtown Trail Cache and Release 1 Caches will be released to the public on September 23, but should not be located prior to 6 p.m. on September 24th.

4)Caches are published the evening before to give everyone a chance to look at the cache listings, solve any puzzles, and tactically plan the course of their hunt.

NOTE: Every cache listing submitted for BTTCAR1 should be reminded of the following:

1)Existing and new caches released for BTTCAR1 will be invited to become distinct Boomtown ‘branded’ caches. Unique prizes will be awarded to caches that are chosen.

2)With the help of local cachers, Boomtown Trail hopes to develop these caches into a geocaching touring route that captures the essence of this region through the joy of hunting to sites that showcase creativity, natural beauty, unique cultural accents, and/or places of historical significance.

3)Help us pick the caches that deserve to be praised. Pick up the BTTCAR1 “Pass to Cache” which will include a detailed map of the region, and a place to vote in each category for the best of the best caches. Completing the “Pass to Cache” booklet will get you entry into a draw to win all expenses towards creation of your own Path Tags. You can pick up your “Pass to Cache” at the BTTCARniVAL on Friday night, or at BTTCAR Breakfast Saturday morning. Details of these events to be posted soon.

Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:

Most Creative Cache

Best Puzzle or Multi-Cache

Best Scenic Cache

Best Historical Cache

Best Nighttime Cache

Best Cultural Cache (a cache in a city, town, hamlet, community, at an attraction, or a cache that displays rural culture in some way).

As well, hiders will be awarded prizes for:

Most Caches Hidden

THE HUNT: At 6:00 pm on September 24th, all BTTCAR caches become fair game and the hunt begins. Feel free to find as many or as few caches as you want. During the hunt, please document the time of find in the logbook. This makes things more interesting by informing subsequent finders how close they are on your tail.

NOTE: You are welcome to find existing caches in the area, but only caches released for BTTCAR1 can be counted towards most finds. Otherwise it would give local cachers an advantage.

Hunters will be awarded prizes for the following:

Newest Cacher

Most Caches Found

Most FTFs

Furtherest Distance Travelled to Attend BTTCAR1

THE GET-TOGETHERS:

This is a big open space, and anyone is welcome to camp overnight on Saturday for free. There is walking trails, and a playground at the campground. There is no hook-ups in the group area, but just over the hill is campsites available for nightly rates of $12 (no hook-ups) and $20 (hook-ups). We will be there by 4:00pm for visiting, voting, and storytelling. A free supper will be served at 5:30pm cooked by the Hay Lakes volunteer fire department. A local character will be visiting the campsite amphitheater at 6:30, and this short performance will be followed by prizes and wrap-up. You are welcome to drink at the campground, but please drink responsibly if children are present.
