Geocache Description:

Loch Scardroy (also known as Loch Beannacharain) is a natural loch lying at the top of the River Meig valley approximately 8½ miles beyond Loch Meig. It lies at an elevation of 476 ft (145m) above sea level, is approximately 1.7 miles (2.75 Km) in length and up to 550 yards (500m) in width, and has a total area of 250 acres (101 hectares). The loch reaches depths in excess of 50m.

An Early Bronze Age stone mould for making a flat axe and a narrow triangular casting was found in a peat bog, between Blar-na-Bithe (NH 263 505) and Scardroy Loch (Loch Beannacharain: NH 2451). It was in the possession of Miss Balfour of Whittingham in 1897, and was donated to the Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service in 1913.

Park in the small parking area at Scardroy Lodge, which is at the end of the single-track road sign-posted as Strathcarron from the main road. I personally do not know a more remote part of Britain that can be accessed by car. Your only company out here are flocks of sheep and herds of deer.

The cache was planted with my friend’s 8 year old daughter on their annual summer holiday to the Highlands.’ Merch y Mynydd’ is the name she chose for the cache – she is wonderfully bi-lingual - which roughly translates from Welsh to English as ‘Mountain Girl’!

Fantastic!

The contents of the cache when planted were:
Glitter pencils
Stickers
Bottle of bubbles
Dolphin key ring
Animal rubber stamp
Micro picture frame
