Geocache Description:


Through the assistance of the Trust for Public Land, 300 acres was purchased in 1982 from the heirs of Aram Harootunian. It is now public land managed by the United States Forest Service.

In passing the Santini-Burton Act,Congress found the Lake Tahoe basin had "Unique character ... of national significance,deserving further protection." The Act authorized the Forest Service to buy sensitive properties with funds from surplus land sales in Nevada. By 1987, over 8000 acres in 2000 parcels had been acquired.
