전주는 김동문, 박주봉, 하태권 등 세계적인 배드민턴 선수를 길러낸 곳으로 2006년 2월에 종합 체력단련장에 착공하였다.
새로운 도약의 발판이 되는 실내 배드민턴구장은, 총 사업비 50억원을 들여 2,551평의 부지에 건축연면적 1,184평에 16면 코트로 국제경기가 가능한 실내배드민턴 전용구장이며 주5일 근무제의 시행과 웰빙 시대를 맞이하여 급증하는 동호회원과 시민의 건강증진에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대되며, 전국대회 및 각종 국제대회 유치 등 지역경제 활성화와 배드민턴의 고장으로서 명성을 떨칠 수 있을 것이다.
