Pulling The Plug Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

erik88l-r: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the next 30 days, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the second of hopefully many geocaches I will be listing! The more caches I do, the more I enjoy the creative, not-so-common caches that are out there. This is one of them. Hope you enjoy!

The island of Oahu is a magical place for tourists to visit, and has a way of life cherished by the locals. Many people come here to relax from the hectic work atmosphere to soak in the beatuty and lifestyles of those who live here. Hawaii has its own time zone (dubbed "Hawaiian Time") and does not have Daylight Savings Time due to the fact DST was created to allow local farmers (in a high density farming location) ample enough sunlight to perform their duties. Since Hawaii is not a large farming community, it does not fall in with this idea. This being said, over 1/3 of the world's commercial supply of pineapples come from Hawaii, and Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee within the US. Hawaii is made up of over 130 islands including the 8 major islands of Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe. Oahu is the third largest island of all the Hawaiian Islands, and includes the largest city in the world (Honolulu). This is because according to the state constitution, any inlet or island not claimed to a county is designated as a part of Honolulu. Hawaii was led by a monarchy which fell in 1893 after a reign of almost 100 years. After the fall, Queen Lili'uokalani unsuccessfully attempted to regain the throne before being arrested and imprisoned within her own establishment known as Iolani Palace. Not long after, Hawaii was admitted to the union as the 50th and final state of the US.

I rate this cache a 3.5 for terrain, though you might find it a little tougher after a nice rain. This trail tends to get a little muddy to say the least! To start this journey, parking is usually available on Kelewina St. which begins at the coordinates N 21 21.550 W 157 45.814. Walk down past the "Road Closed" sign to find the beginning of the trail at coordinates N 21 21.545 W 157 45.753. For the simplicity of directions, hike up the trail using any which way it splits. It will all come together before the path you need to take. When you reach the coordinates N 21 21.091 W 157 46.261, you will see a path on your right. Head toward the telephone poles and continue on to the final location.

This cache is another one of my "away from the norm" caches. Once you arrive at the final location, you will find a contraption to extract the actual container from its hiding spot. You will find this contraption locked and can only be unlocked by using a "Hawaiian number". After releasing the cache and logging your entry, please return by dropping it into the RELOAD hole (use the long indent on the lid to spin the top. Hope you enjoy and HAPPY CACHING!!!

*NOTE* Within this container are now directions for replacement upon request.

*NOTE* Unfortunately, there are cachers lately who are destroying this cache. There have been some trying to pull this out of the ground, break it apart... Look, like ANY cache, if you cannot figure it out, either keep thinking, contact the owner, and/or wait for another day! DO NOT DESTROY THIS AND RUIN IT FOR EVERYBODY BECAUSE YOU ARE TOO IMPATIENT TO DO THIS! This is considered the most BASIC cache etiquette. Thank you GeoGerms for replacing this the way you originally found it. To future cachers, this geocache is not difficult! Think about it, and do this the way it's meant to be done. Thank you.
