The parish church of Saeul, also named as “Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin”, has been restored recently. The results of the work are very good and invite you to discover it. Don’t forget to have a look at the inside of the house of God.
Since 1318, the church is mentioned in the archives. The abbey of Oeren and Echternach owned the authority on the church, later on the feudal lords of Useldange.
The Romanesque look of the building goes probably back to the 12th century and has been rebuilt in the sixties. The result of the restoration is exemplary for the mentality of the epoch: complete evaluation, visibility on the used building materials. Remains of frescos in the apse proves that the interior was masked by at least one plaster, probably also by paintings.
The church tower dates from 1733. A cemetery was located around the church. Some grave stones from the Baroque Epoch, manufactured by local craftsmen, can still been seen here.

Die Pfarrkirche von Saeul
Die unter Denkmalschutz stehende Pfarrkirche von Saeul, welche den Namen „Kirche der Himmelfahrt der Jungfrau Maria“ trägt, wurde kürzlich restauriert. Das Resultat der Arbeiten ist durchaus gelungen und lädt euch zum Erkunden ein. Werft auch einen Blick ins Innere des Gotteshauses.
Geschichte der Kirche :
Die Kirche wird seit 1318 in den Archiven erwähnt. Die Abteien von Oeren und Echternach besaßen die Rechte am Gotteshaus, später ebenfalls die Lehnsherren von Useldingen.
Das Romanische Aussehen des Gebäudes geht höchstwahrscheinlich auf das 12. Jahrhundert zurück und wurde in den 60er Jahren wieder aufgebaut. Das Resultat der Restauration ist vorbildlich für die Mentalität der Epoche: Komplette Auswertung, Sicht auf die benutzten Baumaterialen. Überreste von Fresken in der Apsis beweisen dass der Innenraum von mindestens einem Putz überdeckt war, wahrscheinlich auch von Malereien.
Der Kirchturm stammt von 1733. Ringsum der Kirche befand sich früher ein Friedhof. Einige Grabsteine aus der Barocken Epoche, von lokalen Handwerkern gefertigt, sind heute noch hier zu sehen.

L'église paroissiale de Saeul
L’église paroissiale de Saeul, classée monument historique et portant le nom « Église de l´Assomption de la Vierge Marie», vient d’être restaurée récemment. Le résultat des travaux est vraiment réussi et vous invite à venir découvrir ce site. N’oubliez pas de jeter un coup d’œil à l’intérieur de la maison de Dieu.
L'histoire de l'église :
L’église est mentionnée dans les archives dès 1318. Les abbayes d’Oeren et d’Echternach y détiennent des droits, plus tard également les seigneurs d’Useldange.
L’aspect roman de l’édifice remontant vraisemblablement au 12e siècle, a été reconstitué au cours des années soixante. Le résultat de la restauration est exemplaire pour la mentalité de l’époque : dépouillement complet, visibilité des matériaux utilisés. Des vestiges de fresques dans l’abside prouvent que l’intérieur était au moins recouvert d’un enduit, probablement aussi de peintures.
Le clocher date de 1733. Autour de l’église se trouvait autrefois le cimetière. Quelques monuments funéraires de l’époque baroque, produits d’artisans locaux, sont restés en place.
