A small hike, with waterfalls and a view.
On the 10th of May 1940 Iceland was invaded by Great Britain. British forces occupied the country until July 1941. Control of the island was then relinquished to the military of the United States of America.
The British set up installations all over the country during the time they were here. This machine gun nest is one of those.
The parking spot is located on a small spit called Vestdalseyri (West Valley Spit). There used to be a small community located there, that had it's own school and newspaper. The Blue Church that is now in the town of Seyðisfjörður was originally located there.
The cliffs above are called Arnaklettar (Eagle Cliffs). The way up is to follow an old travel path you will find not far from the waterfall. When you reach the cliffs, head north or just go right. The valley that you see when you reach the top is Vestdal (West Valley).
