Geocache Description:

An easy cache at Summit Lake, just south of highway 184 between Mancos & Dolores.

Summit Lake was constructed in 1905, enlarged in 1938, and is now 400 acres when full. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife and open for public fishing. There is a boat ramp, but only hand powered, wind powered, or trolling motor boats are allowed. There is a new pit toilet. No fires, swimming, or overnight camping.

There is plenty of parking near the cache area, and lots of shade from the ponderosa trees make this a great place to get out of the car and stretch the legs for a bit. Look for pinedrops (Pterospora andromedea), a rare and strange plant related to indian-pipes; it grows in the woods here during late summer and fall.
