La Barre d'Etel
La légende dit qu'Isabelle, une femme qui faisait beaucoup de
bien aux habitants d'Étel, aurait été kidnappée par des pirates
sans obtenir de l'aide des villageois. Elle aurait voulu se venger
en jetant une poignée de sable qui aurait formé la barre
d'Étel.
Plus concrètement, ce phénomène naturel doit son nom à un banc
de sable sous-marin formé par les courants qui se croisent à
l'entrée de la Ria, situé dans le prolongement des dunes de
Plouhinec-Erdeven.
La barre d'Etel se forme à marée montante ou descendante,
disparaît à marée haute et assèche jusqu'à 2 mètres à marée
basse.
Le banc de sable qui la provoque, se déplace au gré des vents et
des courants.
La mer qui se brise sur toute la longueur de l'embouchure rend la
barre difficilement franchissable à certaines marées, quand le vent
souffle du large.
Le franchissement de la Barre d'Etel présentant certaines
difficultés, notamment en cas de mauvais temps, il est fortement
conseillé aux plaisanciers de suivre les instructions communiquées
par le Sémaphore d'Etel.
