Geocache Description:

This interesting journey guides you to the past of Bosnia. On the spot you can find 2 interesting things: - the Rakitnica-canyon, - the village of Gornji Lukomir. Rakitnica is a small creek, which flows into Neretva-river. During the millions of years, Rakitnica created a canyon, which is 5-600 m deep and some parts are only 10 m wide. Gornji Lukomir is the highest and most remoted village of Bosnia, where you can get an impression from the past of this country. There is a small peak near the village and you can get an amazing panaroma with the canyon and with the village. The cache is about 30 m north of the peak. How to get there: Start from Sarajevo and drive up to Bjelasnica-resort, to Hotel Marsal, then drive forward and follow the road-signs to the village of Umoljani. The first building in the village is a small mosque in the right, park your car somewhere there. The trailhead is at N43° 39,908' E018° 13,611', the first sign can be found there. On the other end of Umoljani there is a small restaurant with a beautiful view to Bjelasnica, you can buy some water and food there. You can’t find drinking water afterthat, and the hike takes about 3 hours in one direction. The first 2-300 m of the trail is a little bit confusing, but with some attention you can follow the path, which is getting better and better after the first 1000 m. Important information: the region is mine-free. The cache is at a small rock, covered by stones.
