This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The White Horse Tavern is the 3rd installment of Chester County caches that date back to the Colonial Times of the 18th century. You seek a camo'd lock-in-lock with 18th century goods inside. PLEASE trade similiar period items if possible to maintain the integrity of the cache.

The White Horse Tavern dates back to the 1700's and is located right off Lincoln Highway in Frazer. It still sits on the "Lincoln Road" just ignore the HUGE Sheraton Hotel that was built behind it on the advice of some jackasses in East Whiteland township who thought it would be a good idea to put a hotel right behind a building that George Washington once drank gin and ate lunch AT??

The White Horse Tavern was a central location during the Revolutionary War's Philadelphia Campaign in late summer/Fall 1777. Both the Americans and the British ate and drank here. On Sept 16, 1777 both forces prepared for a major battle in the vicinity of the White Horse but torrential rain stopped the battle before it started. Around midnight on Sept 21, 1777 the White Horse again was a center piece in the Battle of Paoli/Paoli Massacre.

The restaurant is stilL open for business. Go in and check it out. It still maintains a period appearance and the food is great. Also...take note of the old white house in the back of the hotel....have been trying for years to research that place to no avail. If anyone knows anything...please post. The white stucco looks 19th century but a possible 18th century facade is noticeable behind the cracks. None of the buffoons in the hotel know anything about it except that the Sheraton "owns it!" Happy caching!
