Geocache Description:

This is the 4th installment of my series Songs of my Youth. This time we will drop back to the year 1980. My senior year of high school in Joplin, Missouri. The year that the Parkwood Bears had the best class 4A football team to ever grace those hallowed halls!

Dominant Parkwood team enters hall of fame
By Jim Henry Globe Sports Editor
JOPLIN, Mo. — Thirty years ago Joplin Parkwood fielded one of the best high school football teams to ever come through the state of Missouri.

The Bears went 14-0 and won the Class 4A state championship game with a 20-13 victory over Hazelwood Central at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis. (I was there!!)
Parkwood’s statistics reflected the Bears’ domination, outscoring their opponents by a 653-33 margin and averaging 365 yards per game compared to the opponents’ 112 yards.

During that year as our football team dominated everybody we played an anthem to our football boys was played every day in the cafeteria at lunch time. I would sit and eat my chocolate shake and a salad with green goddess dressing (what was in that stuff anyway?).

The anthem was We Will Rock You and We are the Champions.

"We Will Rock You" is a song written by Brian May and recorded and performed by Queen

When performed live, this version is usually followed by "We Are the Champions", another of the album's hits, as they were designed to run together. The double A-side reached number 4 on the U.S. Billboard singles chart, becoming their second hit in the U.S. On the 45 of the song's original vinyl record release, the song was actually the flip side of "We Are the Champions" in Britain, however the American record company requested to put the two songs together as a "double A-side" because American radio stations were playing them back to back. This is a reason why the songs are often paired on the radio and at sporting events, where they are frequently played. The songs are also paired back to back on the album, and they are still played together to this day on American classic rock radio stations.

Buddy you’re a boy make a big noise
Playin’ in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo’ face
You big disgrace
Kickin’ your can all over the place

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Followed by:

We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
Cause we are the champions - of the world

Search the rocks for the cache in which you desire! It is a matchstick container. When you find it sign the log then stop a moment and remember you are a champion! Hum or sing a few bars if you like!
