Geocache Description:

This cache is a regular sized loc-n-loc container.

This cache will require taking a ferry from Catawba Island (Miller Boat Line) or Port Clinton (Jet Express) to South Bass Island, often referred to as Put-in-Bay.

The Lake Erie Islands Chapter of the Black Swamp Conservancy has been supporting geocaching on the islands for three years through its summer nature camp programs for the youth on Middle Bass Island and South Bass Island.

The goal of the Black Swamp Conservancy is to preserve lands on the Lake Erie Islands for future generations to enjoy. As you stroll down the small incline and past the rock garden you will see examples of the flowers and greenery native to the island area as well a man-made pond, where you might catch a glimpse of some frogs and tadpoles. As you enter the wooded path behind the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center, take time to read the signs identifying many species of shrubbery and trees.

Once you find your hidden treasure in the woods, you may want to take time to visit the wonders of nature inside the Lake Erie Island Nature and Wildlife Museum. There are over 240 examples of wildlife on exhibit, which will fascinate both the young and the old alike.

Be sure to practice the geocaching goal of CITO while on the museum grounds and while exploring the island. Through your efforts, we can help the Black Swamp Conservancy preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

If you are new to geocaching and just want to try it out, or if you are a seasoned geocacher and forgot your GPS at home, there is a Garmin etrex handheld GPS, available during the hours the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center is open to the public, to seek out the hidden treasure that awaits you.

Special Note:
PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THIS CACHE FROM PUT-IN-BAY RD. OR PRIVATE PROPERTY!
