Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT LOCATED AT THE GIVEN COORDINATES! Small sized lock-n-lock located in the Tri City area - replacing the "Tri City Trio" series of caches that were dispatched. Puzzle is a low-level encryption technique used by the ancient Greeks, attributed to the Spartans. Final cache is in a fairly accessible location.

A scytale is an ancient encryption method that employed a rod or other circular object around which a strip of leather was wrapped and a message was then written on the leather. In theory, it is a simple transposition cipher. This one, however, is substantially more difficult in that at least three dowel sizes were used and incorrect coordinates were written on the scytale using the wrong dowel size(s).
In order to solve this puzzle cache, you will need:

1. The proper diameter dowel. However, the dowel is not a common size found in a hardware store. That is the biggest challenge of the cache. We're not telling, but you may want to look at the hint.

2. Next – download and print out the PDF file that is located here: (visit link)

Print it at 100% scaling.

If the link does not work, cut and past the following URL into your browser: home.fgi.net/~helston/Scytale2.pdf

3. Cut the strip the entire length of the page – the strip is exactly 1-inch wide.

You are looking for a small sized lock-n-lock container, cammo'd for the location that it's in. The container is large enough to hold small travel bugs and coins.

Note – if you get the wrong dowel size – you WILL get the wrong answer!
