This cache was placed as part of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail, located within the Eastern Lake Erie Region. There were 15 caches hidden within this region, and geocachers finding ten or more Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail caches within this region could earn a free Eastern Lake Erie Region geocoin.
I believe the Great Lakes Seaway Geotrail is no longer being supported. There is no longer a punch in the cache and it will not be replaced.
Fairview offers access to superb fishing year round. Heading west along the Seaway Trail from Erie you leave behind the summer resort area of Presque Isle, Waldameer and the Erie Airport and shortly enter Fairview and the fishing opportunities around Walnut Creek. Along the way in Millcreek and Fairview you will spot some motels, restaurants, etc. sporting signs reading "Welcome Fishermen." Walnut Creek offers superb steelhead fishing which lures many out of town fishermen to its banks from fall to early spring. Where Walnut Creek empties into Lake Erie you will find fishmen lining the channel area known as "the wall" through the night during the fall spawning runs. In the summer Walleye and Perch can be caught closer to shore or out in the trenches of Lake Erie. A fish commission boat launch is available at the mouth of Walnut Creek so that is a very popular spot to gain direct access to the lake.
