Geocache Description:

Answering a few questions about President Chester Alan Arthur, Fairfield's most famous son, will lead you out of Egypt and to this cache.

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

Your answers to the following questions will be used to determine the true coordinates of the cache.

1. On what date did Arthur become president? We'll consider the month 1a, the day 1b, and the year 1c.

2. In what year was he elected vice-president?

3. Arthur was the ___ vice-president of the United States.

4. He was the ___ president.

5. Garfield was chosen as the Republican nominee for president after ___ ballots.

6. Here is something that he has in common with Calvin Coolidge and Barack Obama: he took the Presidential Oath ___ times just to be sure.

7. How many vice-presidents served under him?

8. How many treasury secretaries served under him?

9. How many secretaries of war served under him?

10. How many attorneys general served under him?

11. How many Supreme Court Justices did he appoint?

12. How many wagonloads of furnishings did he have removed from the White House and sold at public auction when he redecorated?

13. What was the value of the postage stamp on which he appeared?

14. In what year was the Chinese Exclusion Act passed?

15. In what year did the International Meridian Conference, called by Arthur, choose Greenwich, London as the prime meridian?

16. On what date did his presidency end?

17. How many ex-presidents survived a shorter time once their terms were over (not counting those who didn't survive to finish their terms)?

Arthur and Obama have something else in common as well. Political enemies claimed that Arthur was not qualified to hold the office of vice president because he was not an American citizen, having been born in Canada or Ireland (depending on which opponent had the floor at the time). That claim didn't stand up to scrutiny either.

The cache is at 44 AB.CDE, 72 VW.XYZ.
