Geocache Description:

This 1927 steam-powered paddle boat was originally known as the S.S. Thorpe and was used as a towboat to move barges between St. Louis & St. Paul. In 1940 the Armco Steel Corporation purchased the boat for service on the Ohio River. They renamed the boat after their company's founder, George M Verity. The paddle-wheeler was finally retired from service in 1960 and then donated to the City of Keokuk. The boat is currently located along the riverfront in Victory Park & serves as a River Museum. The museum is open:
April 1st to Memorial Day - 9am to 5 pm on the weekends
Memorial Day to Labor Day - 9am to 5 pm daily
Labor Day to October 31st - 9 am to 5 pm on the weekends

Permission for the placement of this cache was granted by the Keokuk City Council.
The city parks close at 11:00 pm.

This cache was placed for the HNS 2010 event.
