Geocache Description:

Flagstaff Hill is reputed to be the site of the very first structure erected by Captain Allman's party on their arrival on 17 April 1821 to establish a penal settlement.

Captain Allman's instructions

Governor Lachlan Macquarie issued written orders to Captain Allman to "....establish a Signal Post and erect a Flag Staff immediately on your arrival at Port Macquarie, on some Height and as near to the Sea as possible."

The view from here

Possibly the best view of the entrance to the mouth of the Hastings River and you can also clearly see the waves breaking across the bar (especially at low tide) which caused many ship wrecks in the early days.

To find the cache

You do not need to leave the platform. You will just need some strength!

Please take some time to ensure that the cache camo is properly secured in its location.
