Geocache Description:

Name: lost at sea? Coordinates: N 41º03.020 W 075º38.710 State: PA Difficulty: 4, for skills; 2-4, season, terrain, and weather. Type of Cache: Multi-part, found by navigation with gps.

Description:

Muster all your skills and imagination, and think like Columbus, Lewis & Clark, or even Stanley & Livingstone`dare I presume? Your reward will be to actually reach the cache. Be smart, be careful, have fun and enjoy this adventure. Download the treasure map and dress appropriate for conditions encountered.

Satellite reception should not be a factor (or excuse). This hunt will measure your skill in navigating with GPS. Tip: Know your GPS. Read your GPS manual or handbook carefully. Bring a traditional compass as a back-up.

Success hinges greatly on an ability to navigate using GPS. (Or aided with compass.) Difficulty depends upon season, conditions, weather, and your chosen approach route.

You should have some ablity to judge distance travelled (Hint: GPS can do this for you!), or distance sighted. (Hint: Hmm, now where did I put that golf rangefinder, tape measure or a length of string?) If you are a very skilled navigator, you can even enter this ROUTE into your GPS unit before you leave home.

Everything is line-of-sight. So you should not`you better not, get lost. Good luck and good hunting! And, for the select few, a special reward.

Instructions:

Explorers, the original coordinates have brought you thus far. Navigation will take you the rest of the way. If before you lies a vast sea of stones, you have faired well. But, the voyage has only just begun.

You MUST BEGIN this on-sea journey from the INITIAL coordinates!

On your mark. Get set. Begin. Standing clear of any trees, your ship sails from the shore of this sea of stone.

1. Adjust your starting position. Face the communications (cell phone) towers sighting them on the horizon.

2. Project a bearing of 130º at a distance of 0.1 mile. (Hint: 1 mile equals 5,280 feet.)

Navigate (walk) there by following a bearing/heading (Hint: Utilize features of your GPS unit, projecting a waypoint, following the heading, or Cheat: Use a compass.)

3. You have arrived at Waypoint ONE. Enter this Waypoint into your GPS unit. Label it WP01. You are near the edge of the sea, within sight of shore (The woods). Rest.

4. From WP01, Project a bearing of 75º at a distance of 0.1mile.

Navigate (walk) there by following a bearing/heading (Hint: Utilize features of your GPS unit, projecting a waypoint, following the heading, or Cheat: Use a compass.)

5. Adjust current position for error. Look around. Adding 25-40 feet to your position, proceed forward to a small island (Lone Evergreen Tree) at sea. Stepping left of it, stand on a large rock.

6. You have arrived at Waypoint TWO. Enter this Waypoint into your GPS unit. Label it WP02. Rest.

7. From WP02, Project a bearing of 35º at a distance of 0.1 mile.

Navigate (walk) there by following a bearing/heading (Hint: Utilize features of your GPS unit, projecting a waypoint, following the heading, or Cheat: Use a compass.)

8. Explorer`continue to final destination. Arrival at the cache`now rests on your skillful navigation.

9. Are you successful? Then, enter the waypoint into your GPS unit. Label it WP03.

10. Make your marks in the logbook. Leave an item`retrieve an item. Log your visit at Geocaching.com.

11. Finally, EMAIL the WP03 coordinates to me, (DON'T POST THEM!). If they are a CORRECT MATCH, I will respond via email with BONUS coordinates to a SECRET CACHE for all TRUE Magellans out there.
