Beaver's Playground Traditional Cache

An easy cache in a cool spot along Alder Creek with lots of beaver activity. Look for beaver stumps while you seek the cache - there are a bunch in this area.
This cache is found off the Commemorative Emigrant Trail, within the Tahoe Donner area, in between Schussing and the Tahoe Donner campground. You can access it from either direction. There is parking avaialble on Schussing just before it meets Alder Creek Road, or at the other end of the trailhead, off Alder Creek Road near the Tahoe Donner Campground area.
The trail follows Alder Creek through the woods and you can see a ton of beaver activity: a few dams and a bunch of beaver chewed stumps. You can identify them easily by the cone shape of the stump and the ridges from the beaver's teeth. Sometimes you can see the trunk from the tree with it's cone shaped tip lying right next to the stump. We found 19 stumps while hiding the cache. I uploaded some pictures of a few we found.
As an optional activity, you can report the beaver stumps you find while looking for this cache when you log your find online and/or upload pictures of some cool ones you find to the cache page.
The trail is easy and well marked, but the cache is a bit off the main trail, near a spur trail. Depending on which way you come at it, you may have to cross the creek, but there is an excellent fallen tree near the cache that makes this easy to do.
