Cache is located in Mottino Wash. 4x4 VERY Highly Recommended.
Cache is hidden in small elevated area above the wash. The Ratings
of 4 are due to rock obstacles, special equipment requirements, and
the time required to run the trail. NOT your LPC cache and dash.
If you have a 4x4 and want a challenge, try Mottino Wash. Much more
difficult than John Bull, this wash is full of large angled hard
rocks and boulders that can bite chunks of sidewalls right off your
tires. The rocks tend to shift around, and after the 3rd time up, I
can say it wasn't like the other 2 trips.
You will need a minimum of 1 locker. I say that because my front
locker stopped working earlier in the day, and I was able to
struggle through with only the rear locker working. Oh, I got stuck
too...
High clearance is HIGHLY recommended. Oversize tires, lifts, and
modifications all play a part here. Having some experience crawling
over rocks is HIGHLY recommended. I strongly suggest you DON'T come
alone unless you want the chance to be here for a while. Have some
extraction gear, the rocks will find themselves a place under your
4x4 in just the right place at the wrong time.
With each visit to Mottino Wash, I get a major gouge from a rock.
Today's gouge came from the trail having a new obstacle (rock) that
I don't recall being THERE! So, being in the pickle, I committed to
the attempt of getting out and got stuck. Not bad though, I've seen
Mottino Wash eat a rear control arm, plunder LOTs of tires and
wheels (have a plug kit), body panels, axle tubes, and sliders.
It's inevitable, everyone is going to get gouges and scrape damage,
no way you go up this wash and escape the revenge.
OK, enough on the warnings. Now you have the reason for the name of
the cache. Mottino Wash is revenging the invasion of 4x4s - one at
a time.
Should you make it to this point, you will find a short stretch of
sandy wash where you can pull off to the side, pull out your
folding chair, your lunch, and take a break in the shade of a
single pine like we did on the day we hid this cache. Just a simple
cache from the Jeep, hidden in the rocks above the wash. Small
camo'd pill bottle with more camo. Please replace as found. Watch
out for snakes and other critters of the Desert. The most difficult
part of this cache is getting here. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! you have
what it takes to get through Mottino Wash, but your not done -
yet...
