Kunis Schwammkopf Cache Traditional Cache

Nice cache at the edge of the park - close to the castle "Schloss Marquardt".
1313
First proved by documents in an enumeration of the members from the “Spandauer Holy Brothership”. After that “Zabel von Skoryn” became the first landowner of the village “Schorin”, an old Fishing-Village on the Waterbank of “Schlänitzsee”. Archeological fonds of stone, Bronze and Iron proof, that this village existed much longer then this.
1704 - 1708
The owner of the castle and director, “Marquard Ludwig von Printzen” became owner of “Schorin zum Lehen”. After the request of Friedrich the first, the name of the town changed from “Schorin” to “Marquard”.
1795
The most important owner of Castle Marquardt from 1795 to 1858 was “Hans Rudolph von Bischoffwerder”, general and minister with “Friedrich Wilhelm II and his Son “Wilhelm Hans Rudolph Ferdinand”. He expanded the manor house and redesigned the park around it. Hans Rudolf von Bischoffwerder organized the so called “Blaue Grotte”, a spiritual meeting of the “Rosenkreuzer” medal. The King himself attended on some of these meetings, because he had a sympathy for this medal.
1823
A sketch from Peter Joseph Lenné gave birth to the fundament of his Park Decoration.
1843
Minister “Müller” changed the spelling from “Marquard” to “Marquardt”.
Theodor Fontane stayed 3 times in the manor house of Marquardt. A detailed Chapter can be found in the Book “Wanderung durch die Mark Brandenburg”. He mentioned the manor house of Marquardt for the first time as “Castle Marquardt”.
1892
The Berlin industrialist “Louis Raven” bought castle and the residence of Marquardt as summerhouse. The castle expanded until 1912 with a Hall (West Wing) and a panelling of representative rooms in the ground floor. Also in the beginning of the 20th century the park expanded to its today’s size because of farmers moving away from the southern parts of the park. These changes basically remain to this day.
1900
Because of the remaining of the company for 125 year, Louis Revené donated a new church to the protestant municipality of Castle Marquardt in november 1900. The inauguration of this new church is held on the 8th of October. During this Event the Municipality receives a special bible with a signature from Empress Auguste Viktoria.
1932
The hotelier “Kempinski” from Berlin leased the castle and converted it to an hotel. To stay over night 47 beds were available at this time. Next to the big restaurant there were smaller tea- and wine-rooms. 135 people worked in the hotel. Quickly the castle Marquardt became a loved place for sightseeing for people from Berlin and Potsdame. Newspapers wrote that on some sundays up to 1.000 cars drove to Castle Marquardt. It also received its own busline from Berlin to Castle Marquardt. The busses drove every 30 minutes and delivered visitors from Berlin directly to the castle.
After 1945 to this day
After the second world war, Castle Marquardt lost its owner because of demand of the sovjet military administration during a ground-reformation. First it was a refugee camp, then a child-recovery home, and then a school for deaf people. After that it became a teaching- and testing-site “Bornim” and until December 1993 the institute for Fruitbreeding, Humboldt University of Berlin.
Cultural and historical important in this castle is the hall, the panelled rooms and the oriel window in the first floor. Historically proofed is the existence of the “Franzosenkeller” (French Basement), a deep basement, in which a french soldier died, after drinking to much wine and being unable to find the exit in 1806.
