Geocache Description:

This is the second instalment, to complete the Churnet Valley Trail series from Denstone to Oakamoor. There are 7 caches in the first part (Denstone to Alton) and 4 caches in the second part (Alton to Oakamoor).

The footpaths for this series are generally firm compacted stone. They are in good condition, but unpaved, and there may be some steeper inclines to reach some of the caches. The minor trails can be wet and muddy. The tree cover even in winter is quite dense, so don't rely 100% on your GPS.

The remains of Oakmoor railway station are at the end, or beginning, depending on which way round you start this walk or cycle route. The station was opened in 1849 as part of the Churnet Valley Line and was constructed by the North Staffordshire Railway serving the village of Oakamoor. The station remained open until 1965 when all services were withdrawn. A little north of the station, freight traffic from Oakamoor Sand Sidings continued until 1988.

We started, or finished depending on which way round you begin, with Den”STONE” and we wanted to finish, or start, with a cache placed in an oak tree. However there were no oak trees around, hence the cache name.

Cache is a small clip box. Started with – “Future Geocoin” & FTF Badge.

This cache can also be deemed as a cache and dash. It is just off the main path. N52 59.824 W001 55.310
