Geocache Description:

The final cache site is accessed from the 300m contour path and will be a great place to watch the demolition of Cape Town's Twin Towers at noon on 22/08/2010. There is a spot a little way down off the path, close to the final cache, that would be good for a picnic. You can sit in the shade and decide where to start hunting....

Jessica was one of the real characters of Newlands Forest. An American Blue Tic or Coon Hound, she had the voice and the eyes of a Bloodhound and the boundless enthusiasm of a Pointer. In her younger days she would dash off into the forest chasing squirrels, smells, her own imagination. Wherever we were, we always knew when Jessica had arrived as her baying calls echoed up the mountainside. Usually we encountered her exasperated owner Sandy in the parking area, raising her eyes heavenwards and sighing "I'm waiting for Jessica".

Dogs, like people, have their special friends and enemies, some they ignore, others they greet with affection or play, strangers they check out on "Bumbook" ... and my Jack Rascal 'Tavish always liked to provoke Jessica into her full baying performance. I'm laying this geocache from 'Tavish in memory of one-of-a-kind hound dog, Jessica.

The first part of the cache is where Jessica used to live. The owners know it is there, so don't feel shy poking your hand through the fence to feel for the flexible wire that is attached to the microcache. Pull it out carefully and please replace equally carefully. Lexi, Jessica's elderly Golden Labrador pal often lies near the cache hiding place but she is a soft, gentle old girl. Talk to her nicely and she'll let you search.
The coordinates to the final cache are written on both sides of the slip of card.

For the second part of the hunt, I suggest you park near S33 58.280 E018 27.015

There is no need to leave the contour path until you are within 10m of the cache.

November 2010 - A word of warning, muggings seem to have restarted in the Rhodes mem./blockhouse area recently. Both a cyclist on the dirt roads below the blockhouse and some hikers on the contour path were robbed at knifepoint. The attacks occurred later in the day. Please take care and preferably don't go alone.
