The memorial was erected and the dedication service took place on Armistice Sunday, 12 November 1995 at 1pm. The timing was deliberate in order that it did not clash with other Services taking place at the 11th hour on that day. Approximately 300 people attended the ceremony.
In the years since 1995, the four churches in the Parish have each taken a turn to officiate at the annual Remembrance Ceremony at the memorial.
The monument was paid for by donations from relatives and friends of the war dead and raffles in local pubs. There was also a £1,000 donation from the Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society.
The monument bears the names of the "Glorious War Dead" of Davidson's Main and Cramond Parish and a poem by Robert Burns.
Only the fallen from the Second World War are listed here - if you'd like to pay respects to those from "The Great War", they can be found at Cramond Kirk (don't forget to visit Alaterva while you're there).
This cache is a replacement for one originally placed by Blue Magician, who kindly gave his permission for me to restore it. I'm quite a fan of the Lest We Forget caches, and feel that it's important that we remember those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
The cache container is the logical successor to an interesting raffle prize from hobgoblinkiteflyer, at the WWFMVII in May 2010. Room for very small trackables only, I'm afraid. Stealth is obviously required and please take care to replace the container as you found it; it will only attach to the hide in a certain way and in a particular place.
Well done to Original A1 for the FTF - with further congratulations to custard-sharks and Daftduck17 for claiming the FTF prize.
Even more congratulations to miniminxes for being the 100th finder - a surprisingly busy little cache.
