The San Francisco Bay Toll-Bridge, was built in 1929, and upon completion was the longest bridge in the world (at that time) That same year, 1929, Herbert Hoover ordered the Presidential Commission to design another San Francisco bridge, and a few years later work began on the Golden Gate Bridge, which opened to the public in 1937.
