Geocache Description:

A stroll around the riverside town of Woodbridge, collecting clues before heading to find the cache. Please replace the cache carefully.

The ancient town of Woodbridge stands on the river Deben. This cache is a treasure hunt which will take you on a circular walk around the town, passing some of the fine old buildings, before returning to the riverside to find the cache. There is a car park (pay-and-display) next to the Deben Leisure Centre from where it is a short walk to stage 1. The railway station and bus stop are also close to this car park.

Stage 1: N52 05.487 E001 19.041 John Bayly Tailer is commemorated near the Quay Church, which was founded in 1651. He died on May 1st 18A7 aged 6B. (Since we set the cache in 2010, a new porch has been built around the old memorial stone. If you are unable to read the stone, look for the sign with the minister's telephone number - it is 01394 385B8A).

Stage 2: N52 05.611 E001 18.860 Thomas Seckford was Master of Requests at the court of Elizabeth I. He was a prominent benefactor of the town, establishing a large set of alms houses and school. The house in which he lived from 15C4 to 15D7 is also now a school.

Stage 3: N52 05.637 E001 18.730 The Seckford Dispensary is now a private dwelling, If was founded in 186E and the building was erected in 18F6.

Stage 4: N52 05.646 E001 18.803 Outside the Moot Hall, which now also houses the heavy horse museum, is a pump under a brick structure erected in 187G.

Stage 5. N52 05.651 E001 18.988 After passing the quaintly named Olde Bell & Steelyard pub, with its overhanging crane, you are looking for a former pub, also with an unusual name, The Case is Altered. It was originally called the Tankard, but was renamed in 1870, and it closed in 1905 (although the dates above the door used to show 1870 to 1911). Add together the digits of the date of opening and the digits on the door itself, then subtract 20 to get H.

Stage 6: N52 05.695 E001 19.090 Woodbridge has two Anglican churches, St Mary's which you passed near Thomas Seckford's house, and St John's. In the churchyard of the latter, find the grave of Beatrice Maud Anna Owles who died on August Jth 1879, aged K.

With a full set of answers, head back towards the river to find the cache at N52 05 B(D-C-1)K E001 19.(E+F-G)(J-H)(J/2). Please replace the cache carefully.
