In 1790, the first Methodist Meeting House at Carter’s
Station was located across the road from the present church
building in the Albany Cemetery. In January 1836, the trustees of
Carter’s Station Meeting House and Campground purchased nine
acres of land surrounding the meeting house for $9.00 an acre. It
is on this purchased land where you will now find the present
church building and cache. This location was the host site of a
great revival in the early 1800s.
One historical account claims that over 10,000 people were
gathered here for the revival. Today, this church is still active
and proud of its rich heritage. I hope you enjoy your visit to
Carter’s Station UMC. Feel free to enjoy the tranquil setting
and to take pictures of this beautiful location.
The first stage of the cache requires you to find two
numbers on a historical marker at the above coordinates. The
first number is the year in which John Carter found a fortified
Indian village, made peace with the Indians, and established a camp
here for settlers which will equal X.
The second number is the two digit number to the right of the
three-star emblem for Tennessee which will equal Y.
Use these two numbers to calculate the location of the cache box
with the following formulas:
NNN=X-1325
WWW=Y+537
So the Cache Box location is at:
N 36° 14.NNN W 82° 54.WWW
Note: Please use good geocaching sense when retrieving this
cache. Examine the hiding place and make sure none of God’s
creatures has stopped by to check it out before you. You are
looking for a large black Lock-and-Lock container. It is best to
visit this cache in daylight hours since it is located in a remote
setting. Late night visitors will arouse suspicion with nearby
neighbors. Also you will want to avoid hunting it on Sundays until
after lunch! To avoid muggles at stage two, park in the lot behind
the church and you will be out of view. Grab the cache and then
examine it on the steps behind the building!
