Geocache Description:

Count the salmon as you look for the cache!

This cache is situated at Bridge of Feugh just outside Banchory at the junction of the B9077 (South Deeside Road) and the B974 (Cairn O’Mount road). The bridge crosses the Feugh, which joins the Dee in Banchory. Next to the bridge is an old Toll House which guarded the two pike roads into Banchory.

Bridge of Feugh is famous for its leaping salmon. Every year Atlantic salmon attempt to return to their spawning grounds upstream in many Scottish rivers. But even if they dodge fishermen in rivers such as the Dee they are still faced with challenges.
The rapids / falls at Bridge of Feugh are one such challenge and salmon can be seen leaping upstream as they head for their spawning grounds along the Aven and Dye.

There is an information board at the car park describing the natural history of the salmon and its journey in more detail.

Cache is a small green screw top. Thanks to Gasman2857 for the original Bridge of Feugh cache, which he has confirmed he will not be replacing, since it took a 'dip' in popularity in 2010!
