White Cloud "Ghost Town" located on the Wabash Trace.
Two towns were established in Mills County before the railroads came. White Cloud was one on them. It grew up around a mill that was built on the Nishnabotna River in 1852. Farmers from up to thirty miles away would bring their grain here to be milled. A small business community grew up around the mill. By 1869, it included two general stores, a drug store, a post office, a place to eat and sleep, a blacksmith shop, and a doctor. When the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad was built, it missed the town. And so began the slow decline of White Cloud. By 1937 the vacant mill was all that was left. It was sold at auction for $710 and razed. A second small town was formed called White Cloud Junction, east of the river. It was at the junction of Hastings and Sidney railroad and the St. Louis and Council Bluffs railroad. The cache is located near this junction.
The cache is located on the Wabash Trace a short distance south east of where White Cloud was actually located. There is no sign of the town today. You are looking for a small Tupperware container wrapped in camo tape. There is room for a few small trade items. The best way to access the cache is by bike. It’s an easy 4 mile bike ride from the Malvern trail head. There are more caches further down the Trace.
