Strahan "Ghost Town" located on the Wabash Trace.
Strahan was developed shortly after the first railroad was built through Mills County. The St. Louis & Council Bluffs Railroad first ran in October of 1879. Strahan’s post office was established in 1881. From there, it developed into a very active commercial center for the area farmers to market their grain and livestock. Strahan had many businesses including two elevators, a lumber yard, several grocery stores and meat markets. Business was good through the 1920’s, and then improved roads made it easier for customers to drive to other business centers. The depression took its toll also. After World War II, only a grocery store was left. The post office was closed in 1955.
This cache is located on what was the St. Louis & Council Bluffs Railroad. It’s now the Wabash Nature Trace. You are looking for a small ammo can. This cache is best approached on bike. It’s about a seven mile ride from either the Malvern trail head or Imogene. There are several other caches along the way.
