Smokey Bear
Was created to educate the public on the dangers of wildfires
An advertising campaign featuring Smokey was created in 1944 with the phrase " Smokey says-Care will prevent 9 out of 10 wildfires"
Another poplular Smokey message "Remember-Only You Can Prevent Wildfires" was created in 1947
Smokey Bear is recognized by 97% of adults and 77% of children in the US
Smokeys correct name is Smokey Bear. In 1952 the song "Smokey The Bear came out forever confusing Smokey followers..My dad once did an interview for the USFS and put it this way ,Would you say Easter The Rabbit or Easter Rabbit?
The living symbol was an American Black bear who in the spring of 1950 was caught in the Capitan Fire that burned 17,000 acres in the mountains of New Mexico
He then was treated and once well again, lived in the National Zoo in Washington DC for 26yrs..He died on Nov 9 1976
His remains were taken back to New Mexico and buried at what is now Smokey Bear National Park
I hope kids are brought to this cache and taught about Smokey if they already don't know, and if its open take them inside, they have some great books and children items..

Now for the cache:
I have obtained permission from the District Ranger to have the cache on the grounds, I was given permission but if for any reason they decide they (Forest Service) does not want it on the grounds anymore, it will be removed..
Please also respect the area if traffic is heavy, and only park in designated parking areas, and dont block cars
Cache is not far from parking area
